Titan: Our 1,000th Dog Deserves a Pain-Free Future 💛
Some milestones come with a little extra meaning. When Titan joined our rescue, he became the 1,000th dog we’ve welcomed in. Some of you may already know his sweet face.
Titan is 2.5 years old and, right now, he’s living his best life. He’s in a foster-to-adopt home in the Colorado mountains, where he’s bonded closely with his foster dad and rarely leaves his side. His foster describes him as loving, well-mannered, and quick to come when called. He took about 20 minutes to start wagging his tail on his first night, and by morning he was happy, excited, and handing out kisses before his dad headed to work. He gets along beautifully with the family’s other dogs, and he loves the mountains.
What Titan Is Up Against
We knew Titan had an old injury from his previous life, but his X-rays showed it was worse than we imagined. He has severe hip dysplasia, significant subluxation in both hips, and advanced arthritis. His left hip is in the worst shape, and he groans in pain every time he lies down. He’s stiff in the mornings, and he gets sore when he’s too active.
His vets believe his hip problems may be partly genetic, and an earlier injury likely made them worse.
A Second Chance
Because Titan is so young, he’s a candidate for total hip replacement, the gold standard for returning a dog to full function. After consulting with an orthopedic surgeon, we’re starting with his left hip, the priority, and his right hip will be evaluated down the road. His surgery is scheduled for December 7, a few weeks earlier than we first expected. Recovery will take months, but the long-term outlook is excellent, and his foster family is ready to see him through it.
The left hip replacement is expected to cost approximately $8,400.
How You Can Help
We know we ask a lot of our rescue family, but we truly couldn’t do this without you. Every donation, no matter the size, gets Titan closer to the chance to simply be a dog without pain. Please consider donating toward Titan’s surgery, and share his story with anyone who might help.
