Our Mission
NBMDRN is a foster-based, volunteer-powered rescue with no central facility. Our network spans the U.S., with experienced fosters, transporters, and advocates working together to ensure each dog gets the care they deserve.
Our founding members are longtime Berner lovers with backgrounds in:
Veterinary medicine
Animal rescue and fostering
Organizational leadership
Small business ownership
Nonprofit and board service
In the summer of 2023, this group of passionate women came together to form a rescue that reflects our values: compassion, integrity, and doing what’s best for the dogs—always.
The National Bernese Mountain Dog Rescue Network (NBMDRN) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to helping purebred Bernese Mountain Dogs in need find safe, loving, and permanent homes.
We provide rescued dogs with the time, space, and gentle care they need to decompress, build trust, and heal—then we match them with forever families who will cherish them.
Why NBMDRN?
There are other rescues out there—but we’re focused solely on helping purebred Bernese Mountain Dogs in crisis situations across the country. We work collaboratively with other rescues and breed clubs, but our mission is uniquely our own:
What Sets Us Apart:
Nationwide foster network – no kennels or shelters
Extensive intake screening & individualized foster care
Focus on dogs from backyard breeders, puppy mills & overbreeding
No trial adoptions – only carefully matched, permanent placements
Dedicated to public education and dismantling unethical breeding operations
We never rush the process – each dog gets what they need to heal
