Our Mission

The National Bernese Mountain Dog Rescue Network (NBMDRN) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to helping purebred Bernese Mountain Dogs in need find safe, loving, and permanent homes.

We rescue dogs from puppy mills, shelters, and crisis situations and provide them with the time, space, and gentle care they need to decompress, heal, and build trust — before carefully matching them with families who will cherish them for life.

Our mission is simple - Rescue responsibly. Care compassionately. Place thoughtfully.

Who We Are

NBMDRN is a foster-based, volunteer-powered rescue with no central facility. Our nationwide network of experienced fosters, transporters, and advocates works together to ensure every dog receives individualized care and attention.

Our founding members are lifelong Bernese Mountain Dog lovers with backgrounds in:

  • Veterinary medicine

  • Animal rescue and fostering

  • Organizational leadership

  • Small business ownership

  • Nonprofit and board service

In the summer of 2023, this group of passionate women came together to create a rescue rooted in compassion, integrity, and doing what is best for the dogs — always.

Why NBMDRN?

There are many rescues doing important work — but our focus is singular: helping purebred Bernese Mountain Dogs in crisis situations across the United States.

We collaborate with other rescues and breed clubs when appropriate, but our approach is uniquely our own.

What Sets NBMDRN Apart:

  • Nationwide foster network — no kennels or shelters

  • Extensive intake screening and individualized foster care

  • Focus on dogs impacted by backyard breeding, puppy mills, and overbreeding

  • No trial adoptions — only carefully matched, permanent placements

  • Commitment to public education and ethical breeding practices

  • A patient, dog-first approach — we never rush the process

Every decision we make is guided by one priority : What’s best for the dog.
