Adopt: Rocky

A Gentle Giant With a Big Heart and Bigger Tail 🐾

📍 Grove City, OH — Ohio | 🎂 5 years old | ⚖️ 115 lbs

Rocky is a big, sweet, attention-loving boy who will plant himself on your feet, roll over for a belly rub, and greet every person who walks through the door like they are the best part of his day. He is house-trained, gentle with kids, and great with his foster family’s small dog. He is also a little too tall for his own good, because he is exactly the right height to swipe a snack off the counter. He has been getting braver about it.

Rocky has come a long way since he arrived. He is healthier and more energetic, and he still gets excited enough for short bursts of running and jumping. He gets very excited when he sees his harness and leash come out of the closet, and he enjoys being outside as long as someone is with him. His foster family has seen him be wonderful with little ones, including a 10-month-old he only sniffed. His tail is the only thing that occasionally bonks their 3-year-old, because it lands at just the right height.

Rocky does come with some maintenance, and his foster family wants adopters to know about it up front. He has fairly significant hip dysplasia, managed with carprofen, and he will likely need that and possibly additional pain medication for the rest of his life. He had a hard-to-clear case of pneumonia before coming into rescue, but he is clear and doing well now. He also arrived with a severe, chronic ear infection. It has resolved, but his ears will need ongoing care. He needs help getting into an SUV, so his adopter should be able to lift him. He tends to pull on leash, and he isn’t food-motivated, which makes training a little more of a challenge.

Rocky would do best in a home that offers:

  • 🩺 A committed adopter ready for lifelong hip dysplasia management (carprofen and likely pain medication)

  • 👂 Consistent ear care to keep his chronic ear issues from returning

  • 🏡 A fenced yard, ideally, since he loves being outside with someone

  • 💪 Someone able to lift him into a vehicle and handle a strong, enthusiastic puller on leash

  • 🐾 Other dogs welcome (he has been great with a small dog since being neutered); cats unknown

  • 👶 Kids welcome. He is gentle, though his tail may bonk little ones

  • 🍽️ Counters kept clear, since he is just the right height to explore them

  • 💛 Someone who wants a devoted, foot-sitting, belly-rub-loving companion

Rocky needs a special person willing to take on his care, and he will repay them with a lifetime of leaning, tail wags, and quiet devotion. 💕

👉 Apply to adopt Rocky today and give this gentle giant the committed, loving home he deserves.
