Lucy is only two weeks into foster care and already she is inching closer for pets when you stop, peeking around doorways to keep an eye on her person, and following her foster around the house just a little more each day. She is a mill girl who has never known what it means to be cherished — and she is quietly, cautiously beginning to figure it out. Every single day she gets a little braver, and it is one of the most beautiful things to witness.
She is house-trained, exists peacefully with other dogs, and settled into foster life without a single accident or separation anxiety issue. She walks well on leash when you take it slow and speak gently — her foster describes it perfectly as walking a skittish horse, and honestly, that tracks. She prefers to walk beside or ahead of you, takes her time investigating the world around her, and is smart enough to untangle her own leash when it gets between her feet.
Lucy is still discovering what she likes — treats, toys, favorite spots — because so much of ordinary dog life is completely new to her. Her foster believes she is going to evolve into a perfect velcro couch potato, and we believe it too. She just needs a little time and a whole lot of patience to get there.
