His full name is John Wayne, but his people call him JW or Jay Dubbs, and he has a lot to say about everything: his napping adventures, the menu at dinnertime, the absolute thrill of the word c-h-e-e-s-e, and the general excitement of being around the people he loves. He came from a tough situation — abandoned, neglected, and food insecure — and responded to all of it by deciding that people are actually the greatest thing in the world and he would like to be near them as much as possible.
He is not immediately a velcro dog. He is shy at first, a little aloof, and needs time to decide you are safe. But give him that time, and one day he will flop his head right into your lap and look up at you like he cannot believe his luck. Every single day in foster care he shows a little more of his goofy, happy-go-lucky self — playfully hopping around, chasing his people, clutching his beloved little yellow ducky. He is a dog who never got to be a puppy, and he is making up for it with tremendous enthusiasm.
He is crate-trained and house-trained on a consistent schedule — though he has opinions about going out in the rain, and those opinions are no. He loves exploring the yard, licking water off the grass, and greeting you at the door with a full howling recap of the day. He does beautifully with the other dogs and cats in his foster home, and he will be equally happy as an only dog as long as his people are nearby.
